Facebook challenge

I've just come across the Wittygraphy site, which has a very cool feature where they have caricature competitions every two weeks. Nothing like a good bit of healthy competition to help hone the skills. There was only about 40mins left of the deadline for there latest contest, which was to draw or paint the 50's TV American actor Karl Malden. The sketch I did was okay but had I looked around at more reference pictures of him I would have realized his neck is nowhere near as long as I first mistook it to be, in fact it is the opposite, I should have drawn him with his slightly large square head nuzzled into his collar. Oh well.

Top Gear

I've been experimenting a lot recently with more detailed caricatures of family so I thought I'd take a break and do something more light and cartoony. I'm not sure what style I want to go for yet with my caricaturing, the more traditional kind or more cartoony.

Mind saying that, I have started on a picture of my Dad tonight, not sure if it is going in the direction I wanted. I'll hopefully add some more detail to it later and see if I can sort it out

I've probably drawn pictures of my Dad more than any other person in the world, here's one I made earlier

Family

A lot of the work I do is very cartoony, so this week I have been caricaturing members of my family in a variety of different styles.

Introduction

Hello

My name is Scott Evans and I am a graphic designer who specializes in cartoon logo designs and animations. I have a home based studio called LOOK Designs where you will usually find me sketching away and coming up with ideas for new logos and ways to animate them, usually for my clients web sites but I have also been working on animations for television commercials lately as well.

Here are some examples of recent animated logos I have been working on and also some of my TV work.

(I created the mid animated animal sections for Prism Entertainments)

I've set this blog up so that I can give a little behind the scenes information on what I do whenever I get the chance to. I have spent the last 5 years setting up my graphic design business and improving my flash animation skills, but what got me into drawing originally was caricaturing. At school I use to draw all of my classmates constantly, my work was in very high demand (to the point it drove me crazy in the end) but lately I have not done much in the way of caricaturing as I've been concentrating on logos and animations and that is something I would like to change, and so lately I have been doodling people that I know, experimenting with different styles of caricatures.

If anyone wants to ask me any questions about my work, please do, I will be more than happy to all of your questions.
